Chalk

Big surprise! Tim Holtz tag for November is all about chalk effects!!!!

Even bigger surprise....I don't have any of the requirements other than the pumice stone DI :-(

I will not contemplate the idea of not participating this month as I am in the country where all my craft stash is, I am not going out shopping for anything either! I WILL MAKE DO!!!

So here are a few experiments....

This the mini acorn blueprint stamp that I have stamped using Versamark ink and then dusted with talcum powder...

This the mini oak leaf stamped with white pigment ink & embossed with distress embossing powder (antique linen) and then scribbled over with white pastel which I then rubbed with a soft cloth & brushed....the DEP does give a good tooth for the chalk!

I decided to go with both to see what happened so I then followed the rest of Tim's instructions...

Stamped 2 more of each design & gave them the appropriate treatment, cut out the different layers and mounted them onto the base design on the tag using foam pads. Amazingly enough I had some black foam pads, how lucky was that!

I swiped & spritzed & mopped & dried...then stamped out some labels - acorn & oak, and as there was still ink on the mat I did more of the same treatment on some card remnants....not the same results :-(
The colour has come out more grey than brown but, hey, I'll live with my errors today.

I think I prefer the colour given using the versamark but I also like the "tooth" given with the distress powder! Let me know what you all think...

  1. Wonderful tag, love the acorn! Guess what, I don't have any either...so I still have my thinking cap on.

  5. Hi Sally, I love your tags! Especially the coloured one with distress embossing powder, it gives it an aged look.
